Bow Tuning
Tip “ Are your limbs straight?”
When choosing a
new bow, most people tend to opt for one with universal fitting limb pockets.
This option
also offers scope for future upgrades by allowing you to mix and match limbs and
risers from all the leading manufacturers.
What is not
always appreciated is that whilst the limb fitting might be universal, the limbs
and handle are not; these reflect the manufacturers unique selling points.
The consequence
of this being that each handle has a variety of adjustment options.
Unless you have
bought your bow from us it is possible that these adjustments and how the bow
should be set up may not have been fully explained or over time have been forgotten.
The most
important adjustment you should make before any bow tuning can take place is to
ensure that when strung the limbs unfold and return in a straight line.
In most cases
this will mean that the string does not run down the centre of the handle but is
not too far off.
Many a time we
have seen bows where the string runs directly through the centre of the handle
yet the limb tips are facing in different directions. Apart from the obvious
limb efficiently and accuracy issues, on a safety note at best the string could
fall off or worst the limbs could eventually take a permanent twist.
If you are
unsure how to adjust or check your bow, bring it along to us and we will be
happy to show you how free of charge.
The only
proviso being that as Saturdays are generally our busiest day of the week, this free service will be unavailable on this day.
If you have not
visited us recently, this might just be the excuse you were looking for and the
cheapest way to help to improve your scores.
