Archery is a Certified Beiter Dealer
Dear
Perris Archery I have
just read your article on choosing new arrows and, for all those out there
who are tempted to order over the internet, don’t! I was at the
Braintree
branch under a month ago thinking I wouldn’t mind buying a set of
X10s….until Tony took me aside. Not only did he save me well over £100
by recommending ACC's, he also spent nearly two hours preparing them for
me (including standing me in the range and making me fire unfletched
arrows to find the correct spine) and then reminding me of the basic
technique that he, after all, had taught me in the first place, and then
allowing me to spend more time on my own in the range testing out the new
arrows. I cannot recommend Perris Archery high enough (and it’s not just
Tony, it’s everyone) for their professionalism, their friendly and
expert service, and their sheer and obvious love of archery. If the shop
had not closed (and if my partner had not returned from the nearby
designer village) I would have stayed there all night.-
Many, many thanks, and Happy Christmas to you all. JE
"I
just wanted to say thanks for sorting out my bow setup on Friday. It
shoots really sweet now, balances well and no vibration". - Kevin
Hi guys,
Just a big thank you
for helping me select all the correct goodies when I came to you
recently. Derek was the most patient of people, carefully guiding me
through everything I required with no bias towards the more expensive
kit and I fully appreciate the time spent with all the help and advice
(free as well), I have already returned to your Aladdin's cave in
Braintree and will always continue to do so. What more could a budding
novice require!!!!!! again many thanks. .
"Having just
purchased my BMG/Kap Recurve I can only say how impressed I was with the
friendly, patient and professional attention I received. There was never
any sense of hurry and spending nearly 3 and a 1/2 hours choosing and
testing was a very enjoyable experience. Now the proud owner of some fine
equipment 100% happy! I have no hesitation in recommending your service
and shall be a regular visitor! Thank you".

Jan 2009 Prices
& Squaring the Circle
With running
costs going up all the time and the double whammy of the weak pound
against the Euro and US Dollar, we like all Pro Shops have had to
look hard at our spreadsheets (and will continue to monitor and pass on
any savings should the situation greatly improve) to allow us to continue to
offer a balance between good prices and the excellent facilities we offer,
that way we can continue to offer well informed advice to help you get
your purchases right first time round.
Over the New Year we have been re-evaluating what we believe archers want
from a Pro Shop and we are convinced that our ideals are still correct.
Most archery equipment ends up being a personal choice, a balance between
functionality and cost, what might work for one archer can turn out to be
totally unsuitable or disliked by another despite all other things being
equal.
Sadly, more and more we are seeing people who have bought elsewhere,
mainly on price, find it does not do what they expected it to, or they
cannot set it up correctly. Worse still in our minds and it is not
uncommon that they could have got the right item at a good price from us
in the first place. In
all but a few cases this is because what seemed like a bargain at the time
turned out to be unsuitable, despite the archers best efforts
to make it work before visiting us. The biggest culprits are Compound Bows,
Recurves and Limbs, especially Arrows, smaller items like sights, buttons,
arrow rest and even tabs.
As we are all being told on the News, times are expected to get harder, so
we believe it makes sense to get purchases right first time, especially
the more expensive items, as changing and getting the correct item could
turn into a costly loss.
Our definition of a Pro Shop appears to be a lot different to many other
shops selling just on price with either no shop and/or no shooting
facilities. We want you to get the most out of your equipment and to give
you the best chance of reaching your potential. Disappointingly poorly set
up equipment is all too common these days, actually stopping those that
could achieve higher scores attaining them even before they step on to the
shooting line.
At Perris we have always invested heavily in good facilities and skilled
staff, this helps us to help you to make informed choices about equipment,
bow set up and technique. However the circle we have to square is that
between price and the facilities and levels of service we offer. We
believe that if you enjoy your archery and want to get the best out of
your equipment whether your archery is just a few arrows down your club,
the dizzy heights of the Olympics or somewhere in between we can help,
over 120 years of experience reduces the chances of re inventing the
wheel.
The very good news for 2009 is that we stand by our ideals, we are already
halfway through completing the expansion of the Uckfield Pro shop to
quadruple the size and include a shooting range. Braintree will also have
a facelift and
following on from the success of the coach's presentation last year we are
looking to put on similar events in 2009.
With
all these exciting new things happening we must not forget that our Raydon
Pro Shop was purpose built from the start and offers archers excellent
facilities with a fully carpeted indoor shooting range and well stocked
Pro Shop. Because of the quality of the facility this is where we run
monthly group beginners courses (Braintree and Uckfield are bespoke) and
can by arrangement run intermediate group courses as well.
AND
all this all running along side our other established and successful
services like our unique Carbon Arrow
Selection by trial service, widely recommended and well respected
Beginners Fitting service, Coaching, Beginners and Improvement Courses
(Recurve, Compound, Traditional and Longbow), Corporate and Social events,
Workshop facilities, regular 3D Filed shoots and finally and most
importantly all 3 shops have purpose built indoor shooting ranges*.
We
hope that you agree that the services we can offer makes us much more than
just a shop and we can help everyone to enjoy their archery a lot more.
Finally I would like to thank all our customers for your support in 2008
and look forward to seeing you all in 2009.
Best
regards
Tony

10 Jan 2009 Update
on Pro Shop Pricing Policy
Why are some
of our online prices different to those in our Pro shops used to be the
question?
Well, the good news
is that it used to be, but now with the exception of "Exclusive
Online Offers and Promotions", the "Quoted" retail prices
on here and in our Pro Shops are the same.

11 Nov 2008 Coaches
Presentation
On Thursday 6th of November
over 36 Essex coaches and representatives from local clubs attended a
presentation by Tony Preston at our purpose built facilities at Raydon.
For many this was the first time they had seen the facilities on offer,
which includes a five target shooting range, Pro Shop and Workshop. We
even surprised some by providing comfy chairs so their cushions were
redundant.
The
evenings presentation included tips on bow set up, the market in general
and how Perris measure up and kit out new and established archers. Pizza
was provided to keep everyone well nourished halfway through and in the
second half Tony unveiled some of the new products from Beiter, Hoyt and
Bowtech. In fact we believe that this was the first time anyone in the
county not associated with Hoyt had, had an opportunity to see and handle
the new Hoyt GMX recurve bow and 990GTX limbs, as the initial shipment to
Europe has had to be returned due to an issue with the decals.
Attendees not only got the
benefit of some 35 years of Tony's experience both as a GMB Archer
(Recurve and Compound) Pro Shop retailer and bowyer of one of the most successful
target bows shot in the UK the Perris Whitehart. But thanks to the Essex
Coaching Guild supporting the event were also able to claim 3 of the 10
points required for their coaching renewal certificate.
At the end of the evening
many thanked us for an enjoyable and interesting evening. The use of a
video camera connected to a 42" LCD screen rather than PowerPoint
slides allowed everyone to see and understand the points being made and
was a hot topic, it was considered by all that the evening had been
a great success. However in our eyes the considerable time and effort put
in to make this event a success was completely over shadowed when it
transpired that some pond life had decided to break in to a couple of cars
in the car park. No comfort to John, Sandra and Carron but this was the
first time ever since the centre opened 2 years ago that anything like
this has ever happened and the centre is used most nights for beginners
courses and by the local archery club Raydon Hall.
When these low life's do
this they do not realise the inconvenience caused by their actions, its
not just about claiming on the insurance and our sincere apologies go out
to John and Sandra Neil and Carron Brown who were the recipients of their
thoughtlessness. It was well past 1.30am before the trucks came to collect
their cars. Plus all the messing around the next day to get things sorted.
John, Sandra and Carron
once again please accept our apologies.

Nov 08 Lynne
Burton an inspiration to all and always with a smile on her face.
Lynne Burton -
Celebration of Life
- There will be a
celebration of Lynne's life on Saturday, 22nd November at 11.30 am at
Chipping Campden Church and all Lynne's friends are invited to
attend. The family request that no mourning colours be worn.
The family home is in MORETON-IN-MARSH (Glos), and Chipping Campden is
just a little beyond that. - St James Church, Church St, Chipping
Campden, GL55 6JG
A tribute from Iris
Major (Taken from the county website) www.ecaa.org.uk
I
know that many Essex and
Suffolk archers had been following the progress of Lynne over recent
years. She started archery in 2001 when she was 27
and during all that time her life was dogged by ill-health, but did that
deter Lynne? Oh no! Lynne and her
parents always knew that she would not enjoy longevity and she was
determined to make the most of whatever lifespan she had. Throughout
numerous major operations, she still managed to reach great heights and
always with her well known cheerful smile.
On
16th March last year, we received an e-mail message from
Lynne, advising us that the IPC website had been published showing her
as ranked No. 7 in the world - that was up from 13 the season before.
She went on to say that there were 4 GB female recurves in the
ranking; 2 stander and 2 wheelchairs and, if the two lists were
combined, Lynne was 2nd for the GB selection.
During
that same year, Lynne was accepted for the GB Squad (funded at the
lowest level). She took part in the Arizona Cup on 7th
April and in September competed at the International Paralympics
Championships in
South Korea.
During
this year Lynne’s health took a turn for the worst and she spent many
months at the
Royal
Free
Hospital in
London - almost her second home! When she was invited
to take part in the selection programme for the 2008 Paralympics in
Beijing her coach, Dr. Peter Drewry, collected her from the High
Dependency Unit at the hospital and drove her up to Lilleshall where,
despite her severe condition (her body was rejecting her second liver
transplant) she came second in the shoot off winning a place to
participate in Beijing. Such was the determination of
this great young lady. She was understandably
delighted because she was all set now to realise her big dream.
But, disappointingly, it was not to be. Lynne’s
health deteriorated still further and because she was too ill to travel
she was obliged to withdraw from the Paralympics. What
another cruel turn of fate for her!
From
that time onwards, Lynne’s activities were completely curtailed and
she was now spending much of her time in hospital. Last
Thursday, 30th October was the last day Lynne was truly conscious and
her family were at her bedside. Then, at 7 pm on
Saturday, 1st November Lynne’s body finally gave up its long fight for
life and she died peacefully. She had reached just 34
years on 17th October.
The
information I have so far received from Lynne’s parents is that she
will be cremated at a private family service on 12th November and her
wish was to have her ashes scattered in woodland near
the family home in Gloucestershire in an area where bluebells flower
each year. At a date to be announced later, there
will be a service in celebration of Lynne’s life and all her friends
will be invited to attend.
The
family have requested that there be no floral tributes but would welcome
support for two favourite charities which, at the moment, we believe
will be Friends of the
Royal
Free
Hospital in
London and the Willow Foundation.
On
behalf of all the members of the Essex & Suffolk County Archery
Association, I would like to extend the sincere condolences of its
members to Lynne’s family. Lynne was quite an
exceptional young lady with a bright and sunny personality, and much
liked by all who met her.

21 Oct 2008 Hoyt
& Bowtech 2009
Both Hoyt and Bowtech have
now released their line ups for 2009.
For Hoyt
as expected there are new Compounds even a centre pivot handle, however
less expected is the introduction of 2 new recurve bows and the re
introduction of the very popular Eclipse handle. Making the Hoyt line up
for 2009 very strong and perhaps even stronger by the re introduction of
the Blue Fusion Colour.
Availability we are told
for all products is within the next couple of weeks and pricing will be
posted on our Online Shop when available.
The Recurve line up is as
follows GMX, Helix, Nexus, Eclipse and Excel.
On the recurve front the
new top of the range riser is now the Hoyt Gold Medallist Extreme (GMX) a
CNC handle without the TEC bar and Hoyt claims to have a snappier feel. The bow
will be available in 23" 25" and 27" lengths and is
complimented by the new 990XT limbs which Hoyt also claim to have more
tortional stability. The limb line up will be 990XT, 900CX, G3, 300
Carbon, Stratix and Excel
The other completely new
recurve target bow is the 21" & 23" Excel along with wood
core limbs is being marketed as an intermediate bow and we feel will be a
popular choice with juniors and those with a shorter draw length.
On the compound front the
big news is the option of spiral cams on some models and a centre pivot
handle.
For full details of all
models options and colours download the Hoyt 2009 Brochure here
Bowtech
have also released their 2009 range of Bows and quite a few new models,
perhaps the big news here is the draw length adjustment on the new cams
which makes the old module system redundant and also the introduction of a
fixed pivot design.
Models are starting to
become available and we are told the full range will be available to order
within the next two weeks.
Full product details can be found
on the Bowtech Website here
and when we can order in stock we will put them up on the website.
We hope to have a selection
of models on display at the coaching presentation on the 6 Dec 08 and in
our 3 pro shops as soon as available.
Generally from past
experiences we are nervous of pre launching manufacturers products
and we have the same reservations this time, mainly because of
availability, because after the initial interest and the new models
hitting our shelves the next batch of availability is delayed and
trying to get the popular models in the popular colours becomes difficult.
So if there is a particular model and or colour (especially Blue Fusion -
this sold out very quickly in 2006 and did not reappear until now) required then
please let us know.

1 OCT 2008 Coaching
Presentation An
invitation to all qualified Archery Coaches and Leaders (although those
that are not qualified but do this role in their clubs are also welcome)
Archery is our day
job so it is important that we keep up to-date with all the constant
changes, for us this is quite easy as we are continually receiving updated
information from Manufacturers and Distributors. However if you are
outside of this information chain it can be hard work keeping informed.
The object of this presentation is to pass on some of this information so
when a club member asks for help setting up his compound or recurve with
the latest adjustments, which you have never seen before you will have
some idea where to start. We will also discuss some of the more important
considerations when setting up a bow and this presentation for some also
be an opportunity to meet the Perris team for the first time.
The presentation will also
count towards your CPD coaching renewal points (3 points of the 10 you
require).
Start
Time & Date: 6th November 2008 at 8pm.
Location: Our
purpose built archery facilities at Perris Archery Raydon: Raydon Hall
Woodlands Farm Raydon Suffolk.

14 July 2008 Congratulations
Derek achieves MB Classification
At the Sussex Open
Championships yesterday Derek Lawless (Braintree Pro Shop) recorded his
third official MB score this season and has now achieved the
classification of Master Bowmen.
Derek shoots a Hoyt Helix,
Inno Limbs, Win & Win HMC stabilisers with AGF V-Bar, Angel
Majesty String and centre serving with Beiter nocking points, Beiter
button and ARE rest. Arrows Easton X10's with 110g Tungsten points and 1
3/4" Spinwings and Beiter nocks.
|
|
3 June 08 Derek
As many of you know Derek
has set out on a quest to achieve MB status this year, last year he got
close but the weather hampered progress.
I am pleased to report that
on Sunday at Spelthorne Derek achieved the first of three MB scores,
obviously all the practice and gym work is paying off as his score of 1138
for a Senior Gent Recurve York was only 8 points off a GMB score !!!! well
done from all of us |

18 May 08 Essex
County Match Cambridge
The annual county match was
hosted by Cambridge this year so it was an early start to be at Fenland
Archery Club by 9am.
It was a good well
organised event, although the wind could have been kinder (perhaps all the
wind farms were a clue) and Essex came away with all the trophies
including the Gents Senior Recurve York
Andrew & Derek were
selected to shoot but Derek was unable to attend. |
|
28 April 08 Perris
Archery 1st
& 2nd at Colchester (CADAC) Open York
Derek and Andrew were
placed 1st and 2nd respectively at Colchester yesterday. This was first
time out for Andrew with his new FiberBow. Despite very little time to set
it up and with less than 200 arrows shot, pushed Derek all the way.

|
31 March 08 Essex
County 4 Way Match
The annual 4 way county
match hosted by Spelthorne Archers and between London, Kent, Middlesex and
Essex was contested on Sunday 30th March.
Essex won the match and
both Derek and Andrew represented the County. |
